BUILDING THE BLACK GATE

Part two: The Gatehouse

…And now near loomed the great rampart of Cirith Gorgor.

The Black Gate is operated by trollpower: when a monstrous treadmill is set in motion the gate doors slowly swing outwards. If you take a good look at the unfinished polyester gate in the Two Towers Appendices, you can see that the towers between the doors and the rest of the gate are in fact two gigantic hinges. We are going to build these hinge-towers that will have the look of the movie ones - but they will operate in a different manner.

“The Gatehouse” is the second in a series of three articles which tell you step by step how to construct this miniature of the Black Gate. It is currently posted at

THE ONE RING.

The templates that you need for the gateway can be found HERE.
